a powerlifting meet to benefit Out Youth
Saturday, October 12, 2019
Ignite Fitnez - 1005 St. Elmo #10, Austin TX
On Saturday, October 12th, please join us for OUT+LIFT, a benefit for Out Youth based in Austin.
Out Youth serves the Central Texas LGBTQIA+ (lesbian/gay/bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning, intersex, and asexual) youth and their allies with programs and services to ensure these promising young people develop into happy, healthy, successful adults.
Their goal is to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth to come together, receive support, and make friends who understand who they are.
Out Youth promotes the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social well being of sexual and gender minority youth so that they can openly and safely explore and affirm their identities.
OUT+LIFT will be a powerlifting competition for all experience levels. Each lifter will get 3 attempts to lift the most weight in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. The total of the best effort in each of those lifts gets combined together to represent their total, which is how we score in powerlifting.
NEVER COMPETED BEFORE? Don't worry about it! This is a fun, informal fundraiser where the community comes together to show how strong we are.
WHAT TO WEAR: In normal powerlifting competitions you're required to wear singlets and certain pieces of equipment. In OUT+LIFT you can wear anything you want! Bring your flair to the platform.
Spectators are welcome and encouraged! Attendance fee is $10. Commemorative T-shirts are available for $20 with the OUT+LIFT logo on the front and competition/sponsor info on the back.
AWARDS: All lifters will receive a commemorative medal for their participation in the competition. We would love to find some sponsors in the community willing to donate items to raffle off! Email email@example.com for more info on that.
WEIGHT CLASSES: There will be no weight classes or weigh ins for this event. Come as you are, weigh what you weigh, and lift heavy!
RULES: Although we want this to be a fun, informal event, we would like to establish some guidelines on what constitutes a good lift for each of the three events.
Squat: The lifter must go below parallel for the rep to be good. That means hip crease at the top of the thigh must be lower than the top of the knee when in the bottom of the squat.
Bench Press: The bar must start motionless in the lifter's outstretched arms, touch the chest, and finish completely locked out. No pause at the chest is necessary.
Deadlift: The lifter must stand up completely with the bar and not drop it at the top. Straps are not allowed on the deadlift. Conventional or sumo are allowed.
ENTRY FEE: $60 received at time of registration. There are no refunds for a canceled registration for any reason. Registration can be transferred to another lifter. Proceeds from the registrations go directly to Out Youth.
FUNDRAISING: Once you click Submit on your entry form below, you'll be taken to the Out Youth site where you can create your own fundraiser to share on your social media outlets. This isn't required, but is certainly helpful! And it will let others know the event is happening as well.
How much should you try to raise? A nice goal might be to strive for $1 per pound that you plan on lifting between all 3 lifts. For example, if you think you'll total 450lbs between your best squat, bench and deadlift, shoot for a goal of $450 on your fundraiser! If you're not sure what you might be able to lift in all 3 lifts, anything will help.
